Lake Erie

"Sword" fighting with giggles as the sun set on Lake Erie.  We're here for a vacation with my parents and all my sisters and their children...
We rented a surrey (I just looked it up and learned from wikipedia that it is named such because it was first built in Surrey, England, it was introduced in 1872 to the United States) for $15/hour.  And the yellow tandem bike was just $5/hour.
Just enough seats for everyone...two tables pushed together!
We made cake pops yesterday.  My sister, Mary, gave Olivia & Hannah a birthday present to share...one of the coolest things I've ever seen:  a cake pop maker!!!  It's like waffle iron.  Below is a picture of Natalia eating one of the lemon zest pops we made...
A firefly...up close, for those of you who live west of Kansas...I didn't know they weren't everywhere, I thought they just came out as the summer came, varieties

Green

Lush and growing well...
I highly recommend the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency books by Alexander McCall Smith.  This is his 13th in this series.  There is also a BBC production of the first couple of books...that are very well done.  We got it on DVD at our library.
I got more herbs to add to my little area where the sage and mint abound...purple basil, dill and lavender!
I crocheted this green trim for this apron for a little girl.  Join in the "Yarn Along" here. ♥

May day in Ohio ♥

In honor of the first day of May, we assembled some little bouquets of flowers to give away.  Snapdragons, iris, purple sage, the yellow flowers of our kale, white tiny flowers atop the cilantro...

At 7:30am yesterday, Olivia and I walked down the street with Lusy the dog, to leave the first one.  What a great way to start the day.  I think we may do this more often, just because.

Today, my mom dropped by with some cut peonies from her yard for us!
Check out what May day is like in Hawaii...

Mint, rosemary and sage...

We plucked the leaves off some of our mint yesterday to make mint butter.  If you can read the recipe in lower left hand corner you can make your own.  It's in our freezer right now, wrapped up like a nice little log, ready for us to slice.  I'm thoroughly enjoying the Crabtree & Evelyn cookbook I borrowed from the library earlier this week...and I just rubbed their La Source hand therapy onto my hands, which were quite dry.
Our chickens are doing okay...Nutmeg faithfully lays a brown egg everyday, Clementine lays a greenish-blue one about once a week now.  She has had some illness on and off for a while, little bubbles form in her left eye and mat down the poufy feathers.  That's the problem with being beautiful.  She is more friendly, though and seems very happy!
Can you see the purple flowers on our sage?  And below, you'll see my rosemary, which I brought inside for the winter....it looked like it wasn't going to make it, but there is new growth!!!
Oh, doesn't this menu look lovely?  And these vegan pizzas?  This weekend, I plan to make Potted Salmon (like a pate, to spread on bread) on page 149 from this cookbook.  ♥ I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
