I think Clementine was looking at Nutmeg in a curious way, that made her self conscious...I crocheted a shawl out of some gray wool I got in either New Mexico or Arizona this summer. Unfortunately, she didn't like it, and tried to get it off and got her foot stuck in it...so I helped her out.

Last night, I finished a wonderful book, Angelina's Bachelors, filled with wonderful recipes and a tender story...that made me realize how blessed I am indeed, to have a husband and 2 children...and 4 pets, and this one (in the photo above) is laying eggs!

I've always wanted to have chickens :) Of course, mine probably won't be wearing awesome little sweaters...but maybe one day!
You did it!!! A chicken shawl!! So incredibly awesome!!! Rock on my friend!!
ok- that is hilarious! It sort of makes me want to make some for our chickens! I really think they're cute.
You are clever. I never made shawls for my chickens... I had enough trouble just getting their feet into their little jammies at night... ; > )
And what cute names your chickens have.
Yes, you are blessed,
Nice chicken shawl!!
Those chicken capes are so dang cute!
I think you should take a visit over to my blog... hint hint!

That is too funny, the chicken shawl!
Thanks so much for your comment on my blog. I'm sorry I don't know where the pattern for the hat came from; it was a gift from my daughter's grandmother (and came with a matching blanket and sweater, two complete sets!). I think she's got old patterns she's been using for many years. I'll ask the next time I see her and let you know what she did. :-)
Oh, just saw your other comments. (Thank you!!). I do think the library would have "The Girl Who Fell from the Sky"--it was a bestseller. And the yarn I'm using for the purple scarf? Not expensive at all, because I got it from the bargain warehouse room at Webs yarn store ($3.59 a ball? And it only took 1 1/2 for the cowl.) I just walk right on by all the dreamy expensive stuff in the front of the store trying not to look, and find something good in the back!
You found it, I think--though online it doesn't look like nearly as much yarn as I think is really in there. It's a giant room (think supermarket size) full of marked-down yarn. (It's in our town: Northampton, MA.)
And thanks for your comments about Lucy's art-as-wrapping-paper. We're all about open-ended art and respect for children here, and it's nice when people notice and appreciate it! :-)
that is so cute! i love your chicken shawl, and the photo of you and chicken is priceless. i love it. (wish i had chickens too). love your family photos too marfa, i don't know how you'd choose, they are all cute!
That is great!
I love it! That shawl is so dear! Makes me want chickens of my own! And I will most definitely look up that book -- it looks like a great read! My son was dancing to your music- he is not a dancer, I might add! What a great selection you have! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Oh, how funny! We have reds too and just love them. The egg laying never gets old by the way, we have 8 chickens and get about 6-7 eggs a day.
What an adorable chicken shawl!
